Storing weed the right way is pretty important should you want to maintain its richness and potency.
Sadly, many people, especially newcomers and casual users, don’t know the intricacies involved in preserving the flavor, aroma, and potency of their favorite flower.

When storing weed whether for short-term or long-term, there are certain factors you need to keep in mind.
As a natural and organic ingredient, cannabis or marijuana can be easily affected when exposed to extreme temperatures or air for longer durations of time.
Although known to have a relatively longer shelf life, improper storage may still compromise its freshness and quality, and in worst-case scenarios, turn it dry and moldy.
Over-dried or moldy weed is not something you’d want to taste or smoke lest you want to catch a cough or burn your throat in the process. Aside from the fact that it is harmful and ineffective, finding out your weed has gone bad in the first place is no less than losing your hard-earned money.
So when storing weed, do this instead:
1. Be vary of light
Be vary of light as it can degrade the quality of your weed very quickly. Especially the UV light, which can be extra dangerous for organic matter or plant health.
As such, it is always wise to store your weed in a dark place away from direct sunlight or any other artificial light for that matter.
2. Keep it airtight
Perhaps the best way to store your all-too-expensive cannabis is in an air-tight jar or container that is free from any kind of contamination.
A glass jar with a resealable lid or a classic mason jar is always a great option; whereas, a plastic or silicon-made container is not as ideal as it can leach into the flower over time.
3. Maintain the right moisture or humidity
Another factor that plays a major role in keeping the quality of your weed intact is the right levels of humidity. Not too low or not too high as it can ruin your weed in no time. The best way to keep it moisture-free is by keeping the humidity level between 59-63%.
To do that, you can use a humidor which is a wooden box used for containing cigars and tobacco. The built-in humidifier and hygrometer in it would help you control and maintain the humidity to its optimum levels.
Or you can simply put a humidity bag/ pack inside your cannabis jar.
4. Store in ideal temperatures
Extreme temperatures of both cold and hot can lead your weed to mold, fungus, mildew, and bacteria. Eventually damaging its overall taste, potency, and aroma.
While too much heat can degrade the cannabinoids and terpenes present in it, too much cold can also cause condensation, and thus result in mold, mildew, and fungus.
To avoid that, store your weed under moderately cold conditions. And make sure the temperature is maintained under 70℉ at all times.
5. Grind only what you need
A common mistake that most cannabis users make is grinding more weed than they need only to end up losing its potency by the time they smoke the rest of it.
Remember, raw weed is always more potent than crushed/ ground weed as the latter ages much faster.
Moreover, the quality, moisture, and density of a bud can also change the quantity of smokable weed upon crushing. Even uncrushed weed that you may have been keeping away from all your friends can start losing its potency after a while.
